New Year Bestu Varas is being celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour in Gujarat. Lots of social events and gatherings are being organised in the state today.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted people on this occasion. In a tweet, Mr Modi hoped that the new year will bring happiness, prosperity and good health for the people.<br/><br/>The next day after Diwali is marked as the beginning of Hindu New Year Vikram Savanstar, which is celebrated across Gujarat as a new year. The Bestu Varas celebration began today with bursting of crackers by children in the morning.<br/><br/>People are visiting temples to offer puja to deities. Dressed up in festival finery, people have started seeing their relatives and friends to wish them a new year since the morning. <br/><br/>The day is of special significance for traders and businessmen as it is marked the beginning of the financial year for them and hence, new ledgers are opened on this auspicious day.
