In Gujarat, scientists of Gujarat Biotechnological Research Centre have completed genome sequencing of more than hundred samples of COVID-19. The state-owned lab is the first in the country to submit more than 100 samples of genomes sequencing at an international level. This will help the researchers to develop a recombinant vaccine against COVID-19.
''
''Talking to AIR, researchers of Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre said the maximum number of samples were taken from places such as Ahmedabad which recorded highest cases and deaths. To get an overall picture of the state, samples were also taken from other districts Vadodara, Surat, Bhavnagar and Sabarkantha. Researchers found various mutations of the virus especially in the hotspot areas. They said, the detailed analysis of the genomes is being done by the lab which will help them in knowing local characteristics of the virus. This will also help scientists to develop vaccine against Corona virus. So far, the GBRC has completed genome sequencing of about 133 samples, which is highest in the country.
