Gujarat police denies threat to life of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt

Gujarat Police say, there is no threat to the life of IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, now in their custody. City PoliceCommissioner Sudhir Sinha said in Ahmedabad that the fear expressed by his wife Shweta Bhatt is unfounded. Sinha said Bhatt will be soon produced in the court to decide about further action on the complaint against him.Shweta Bhatt said that she fears for her her husband's life as he has been handed over to Crime Branch (officials), whom she described as encounter specialists. She said she cannot trust them. She said she has written Director General of Police Chitranjan Singh, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner and Chief Judicial Magistrate of a local court demanding justice.Activists Mallika Sarabhai and former Gujarat DGP R B Sreekumar went to meet Bhatt at the Crime Branch but they said they were not allowed to meet him.Bhatt was arrested yesterday following an FIR filed against him by Police Constable K D Pant for allegedlythreatening him and making him sign a false affidavit on a meeting called by Chief Minister Narendra Modi on February 27, 2002, hours after Godhra train carnage.
