Gujarat, Maharashtra celebrate golden jubilee

Gujarat and Maharashtra are celebrating their golden jubilee today. On the first of May in 1960, the two states were carved out of the State of Bombay. <br/>On the eve of Maharashtra Day ,Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said, his government's aim is to make the State a global state with the people having per capita income of one lakh rupees. <br/><br/>The Chief Minister also assured to make the state load shedding free by 2012 and to build 10 lakh affordable houses in the next five years. Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal also sounded confident that Maharashtra would remain aggressive in all the sectors and contribute significantly towards India's progress. <br/><br/>Addressing a mega conference of Non-Resident Indians and Gujaratis in Ahmedabad on the eve of Golden Jubilee celebrations , the Chief Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi invited the global Gujaritis to join the mainstream of the development of the state. <br/><br/>He said that growth of Gujarat is the collective efforts of all previous governments. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent Sailesh Vyas reports that a large number of programmes have been organised to mark the occasion. The foundation stone of nation's first ever temple of Mahatma Gandhi will be laid in the State Capital, Gandhi Nagar this morning. <br/>
