Gujarat Governor Dr. Kamla Beniwal has been transferred to Mizoram for the remaining period of her term. She replaces Vakkom Purushothaman, who has been appointed as the new Governor of Nagaland. Mr. Purushothaman will continue to hold the additional charge of Tripura Governor. A statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhawan said that Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva will discharge the functions of Gujarat Governor in addition to her own duties.

Earlier, governors of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland and Goa had resigned from their post following the new government at the Centre.
