Gujarat Congress wants strict model code of conduct in the state

In Gujarat, the State Unit of Congress has demanded strict implementation of model code of conduct and direct police to maintain law and order in the state. In a letter written to chief electoral officer Ms.Anita Karwal and chief secretary Mr. A K Joti, the State Congress President Mr.Arjun Modhwadia alleged that the police resorted to firing without any warning in Junagadh in which six dalits were injured. Citing earlier incident at Than in Surendranagar district in which 3 dalits were killed, Mr.Modhwadia alleged that the police was resorting firing to terrorize dalits and poor during the election and keep them away from voting.Mr. Modhwadia claimed that the state government had posted officers helpful to them electorally to important posts just before the elections were announced. He alleged that this was the modus operandi adopted by the Modi Government in 2002 and 2007 assembly elections and also during the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha Elections.
