Gujarat Congress has criticized Chief Minister Narendra Modi's three days fast beginning on Saturday. The party has announced a parallel fast to counter the move. Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela said that Modi wanted to project himself as a “messiah” of the minorities by undertaking the proposed fast.

GPCC President Arjun Modhvadia will also take part in the Congress fast to be held outside Sabarmati Ashram. Maha Gujarat Janata Party President, Gordhan Zadaphia also described the fast as a political stunt.
