Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated a 500-MW solar park at Charanka village in Patan district of North Gujarat this morning. The Solar Park is expected to decrease the carbon di-oxide emissions by eight lakh million tones, which is the first-ever project in Asia to address the problems of climate change. AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that the park proposes to generate solar energy for 330 days a year, amounting to 5.5 to 6.0 KW per Sq.km solar radiation daily. The state government has agreed to buy 933 MW power under its new solar power policy. In the first phase, the park will be constructed on 2,000 hectares, of which 1,000 hectares is wasteland while the acquisition process is on for the remaining area.
