Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said, the GST Council is heading towards consensus on finalisation of legal drafts of Goods and Services Tax, briefing media after the 5th GST Council Meet in New Delhi, he said cross empowerment is a critical issue and the Council discussed it in today's meeting in detail. <br/><br/>Finance Minister said two to three suggestions have come up regarding the issue. The government is keeping its fingers crossed as regards resolution of the issue. Mr Jaitley said if the issue of cross empowerment or dual jurisdiction over the assessees is resolved, it would be deemed that the deal is done. <br/><br/>Mr Jaitley said as desired by the state Finance Ministers, demonetisation issue was also discussed informally, as it does not come under the jurisdiction of the GST Council. The Finance Minister said the agenda for the next meeting to be held on 11th and 12th of this month will be completion of approval of CGST and IGST draft and discussion and resolution of cross empowerment law.
