Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said, growing maritime terrorism calls for cooperative and regional arrangements with various nations to secure peace and to safeguard the maritime assets<span style="font-weight: bold;">. </span>Speaking after commissioning the Indian Coast Guard's fourth offshore patrol vessel ICGS Varaha in Chennai Port today, he said, the multiple challenges like drug trafficking, oil spill and mid-sea collisions require cooperation among all stakeholders.<br />'' <br />''He said, the Indian Coast Guard has become a formidable and reliable force. He observed that the commitments displayed by the Coast Guard over the last four decades has resulted in saving one life every second day at sea. He referred to the service rendered by the Coast Guard during the recent floods in Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka in saving the lives of people in marooned areas.<br />'' <br />''Mr Singh said, issues relating to coastal security are being addressed in a coordinated and cohesive manner. He appreciated the community interaction programme off the Coast Guard by involving local fishermen to serve as the eyes and ears for the national cause. He noted that the oceans are the lifelines of global prosperity and said, safe, secure and clean seas present with great economic opportunities for nation building.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">He also pointed out that the oceans are being used as the routes for asymmetric threats. He said, oceans are prone to the adverse effects of climate change that require global cooperation to tackle the challenges. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O.
