Grid-linked solar generation capacity crosses 5,000 MW mark

India's grid-connected solar power generation capacity has crossed the 5,000 Mega Watt mark. According to a statement by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy yesterday, Rajasthan has the maximum grid-connected capacity with over 1,200 MW, followed by Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The other leading states are Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The major States, which are lagging behind are West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Haryana.<br/><br/>Government has an ambitious plan to have 175 Giga Watt of power generation capacity from renewable sources, including 100 GW from solar and 60 GW from wind, by 2022. Under the National Solar Mission, the government increased the solar power generation capacity addition target by five times to 100 GW last year.
