Green Hydrogen has emerged as promising pathway for meeting the decarbonisation goals: Secy, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy

Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla on Sunday said that Green Hydrogen has emerged as the promising pathway for meeting the decarbonisation goals. He was delivering his address at a side event on Green Hydrogen Accelerating Net- Zero Pathways, organised as part of the Second  Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) meeting under India's G20 Presidency. The three-day meeting which began today is being held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.<br />''      <br />'' Mr. Bhalla informed that India has announced its ambitious energy emission target under which there is a target of installing 500 Giga Watt of Non- fossils electricity capacity by 2030. He added that the country has decided to be energy independent by 2047 and Net Zero emissions by 2070. The Secretary, MNRE mentioned that the Government has launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission this year with an aim to position India as a leader in the global clean energy transition. Mr Bhalla informed that by 2030, the mission targets to achieve at least 5 million Metric Tonnes annual green hydrogen production capacity in the country.<br />'' <br />'' Earlier, Minister of State for AYUSH and Women and Child Development Dr. Mahendrabhai Munjpara delivered his special address during the inaugural session. In his address, Dr. Munjpara stressed on the need to work together to accelerate the transition to clean energy and promoting sustainable growth. The Minister emphasized on research and development of new and innovative technology to promote an advanced clean energy and making it cost effective and affordable. Dr Munjpara added that G20 nations should collaborate and work together to support each other in this regard.<br />'' <br />'' On the occasion, in his address the ETWG Chair and Secretary, Minister of Power Alok Kumar spoke about the need to address the threat of climate change saying that it is crucial for us to transition in a cleaner and sustainable source of energy. He added that India is leading it's way to achieve energy transition and gearing up to address the challenges related to technological gaps. Mr Kumar informed that India has come out with a draft framework for Indian Carbon Market and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has selected and awarded more than 80 Giga Watt solar cell and module manufacturing capacities.<br />'' <br />''AIR correspondent reports that around 100 delegates representing G20 member countries, special invitee countries and International Organizations are participating in the three-day meeting. The delegates will engage in detailed deliberations on the priority areas during the meeting.<br />
