Greek trade union organisations on Wednesday launched a 24-hour nationwide general strike over the country's austerity measures. Organised by Greece's largest umbrella trade union organizations in the private and public sectors, the strike reflects widespread doubt over the effectiveness of the government policies.The strike is expected to paralyze public transport including flights, intercity trains and subways. All state hospitals and health services will be operating with a skeleton staff due to the strike. On May 1, over 10,000 Greek citizens joined peaceful demonstrations protesting austerity measures and pressing for workers' rights across Greece.
