Most businesses and public sector activity in Greece has been brought to a halt as members of the two largest unions hold a 24 hour strike in protest at the government's austerity programme.Police helicopters hovered above central Athens as strikers assembled for a rally. The action comes just over a week before international lenders are due to decide on the next instalment of Greece's bailout. Unions have repeatedly brought the country to a standstill to protest against cuts.
