In Tamil Nadu, the Grand Kallanai dam was opened today for irrigation in Cauvery delta districts by State Ministers N R Sivapathy and Jayapal . River Cauvery originating from Tala Cauvery in Karnataka swirls and twirls and traverses through miles of land before entering Bay of Bengal near, Poom Puhar Tamil Nadu. Cauvery is the lifeline for Salem, Erode, Trichy, Namakkal and delta districts Thanjai, Nagai and Tiruvarur as it provides water for drinking and irrigation. Grand Anicut Kallanai dam was opened today for samba cultivation with 5000 cusecs of water each released to Cauvery and Vennar, 2000 Cusecs to Kallanai canal and 1000 cusecs to Kollidam for irrigation. The farmers of rice granary of Tamil Nadu who lost kuruvai cultivation are now wholly dependent on Karnataka giving enough Cauvery water for their samba cultivation.
