GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation facility to be operational by June 2013

GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation facility will be operational by June next year. The system that is useful in navigation of aircraft, ships, trains- based on signals transmitted by the satellite is named as GAGAN. The Chairman of Airport Authority of India Mr.V P Agrawal told this to media persons in Bangalore today.

He disclosed that final system acceptance test of GAGAN was conducted today to evaluate the system performance and its critical parameters in the integrated live environment. He disclosed that satellite signals and ground based systems were used to know integrity, accuracy, continuity and availability of GAGAN for the use of Aviation sector.

He disclosed that DGCA is under the process of certification of the systems, testing its safety features among other things. GAGAN can be used by the Survey department, railways, Shipping and others for navigational needs.
