GPCC President takes exception to raid by IT officials on St.Xavier Church

The newly appointed Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President and North Goa MP Mr. Francisco Sardinha today took strong exception to the recent raid on St. Xavier Church at Velim in Goa by Income Tax officials on directives from the state Chief Electoral Office. Calling the incident as unfortunate at a press conference in Panaji this evening .He said, these incidents should not be repeated so that the religious feelings of any community are hurt. Similar sentiments were expressed by the Rajya Sabha MP Mr. Shantaram Naik .Meanwhile, Election Officials said that the IT officials raided the premises of Velim Church consequent upon receipt of a complaint that the priest was distributing money in the church. Hence, the IT officials searched the church premises under the directives of CEO and an amount of six thousand Rupees was seized during raid, from the parish priest.
