India's Vikas Gowda will be eying to give India its first ever medal in the track and field events since 1900 when he competes in the finals of the Discus Throw event at the London Olympics tonight. The event will begin at 12:15 AM (Indian Standard Time). Calcutta born Britisher Norman Pritchard had got India its first medal in 1900, when he bagged two silver medals in the Men's 200 metres and Men's 200 metres Hurdles events.
Since then, India has failed to win a medal in athletics. Strongman Gowda has before him a golden chance to break that 112-year old deadlock.
In the Men's Triple Jump event, Renjith Meheshwary will be seen in action in the Qualification round at 3:15 PM (IST) today.
In Men's Hockey, India will play its final group-B match against Belgium today. The match will begin at 8:30 PM (IST). India have lost all of its group matches uptil now and are out of the medal contention.
