The government has said that safety at the workplace is crucial to ensure growth in the manufacturing sector. Addressing industry leaders at the FICCI Safety Excellence Awards for Manufacturing Sector function in New Delhi today, Labour and Employment minister Mallikarjun Kharge
asked them to implement the national policy on ensuring safety and health at the workplace in true letter and spirit to achieve the objective. The minister said the national policy and programme envisages total commitment and demonstration by all concerned stakeholders, including the government and social partners, to the safety issue.
Mr Kharge said that integration of safety and health in all business activities is imperative for ensuring country’s healthy economy. He observed that a strong safety, health and environment culture is a bed rock of such an economy.
Mr Kharge noted that safety, health and environment issues have emerged as important dimensions of corporate
social responsibility across the globe and the country is showing its commitment towards this aspect. He said it is important that manufacturers start sustainable improvement programmes to ensure zero accidents in their organizations and achieve improved productivity.
