<span style="color: #222222;">President Ram Nath Kovind today said the government is working towards greater efficiency in agricultural markets. This will give farmers access to a wider customer base and allow them to get better prices. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He was speaking after inaugurating the 13th edition of CII Agro Tech India-2018 in Chandigarh. The President called for strengthening the link between agriculture and industry for a seamless value chain and minimal wastage.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Mr Kovind outlined several government initiatives – such as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana – to improve the condition of farmers.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The President said the irrigation scheme has covered about one million hectares and the crop insurance scheme has provided a safety net to nearly 25 million farmers.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Mr Kovind hailed the selfless efforts of farmers, saying they have contributed to national development and the wellbeing of people. The President touched on the issue stubble burning by farmers, saying all stakeholders should come up with a solution.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal were present at the Agro Tech fair.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">AIR correspondent reports, around 195 exhibitors, including 37 overseas exhibitors from eight countries, are participating in the four-day event. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Domestic exhibitors from 14 states and more than 40,000 farmers are expected to visit the fair. The theme this year is 'Technology in Agriculture: Increasing Farmer's Income.</span><br />'' &nbsp;
