UPA chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said that the government is working on a New National Bill to broaden the definition of disability. Addressing an international conference on “Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental Disabilities in Bangladesh and South Asia” Sonia Gandhi said that the New National Bill will include within its ambit persons with Autism Spectrum condition as equal citizen. Describing Autsim as a challenge in South Asian countries, she stressed on the need for active participation of civil society to shape and sensitize opinion, and to provide quality care and services. Sonia Gandhi also emphasized the need to create institutions in South Asian countries to undertake research and collaborative project on various facets of Autsim. The Congress President also reaffirmed India's special affection and enduring respect for Bangladesh with which it shares history and commonality of a composite culture.Addressing the conference, Bangladesh Prime Minister Shiekh Hassina underline the need for greater cooperation among South Asian nations to tackle problems relating to Autsim.
