The government has withdrawn with immediate effect the permissible limit on sending bulk SMS and MMS. The restrictions were imposed by the Home ministry on the 17th of this month following reports that threatening SMS were being sent to the people from the North east in some states. The measure was aimed at checking the spread of rumours creating panic among the north eastern people in cities like Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
