Govt withdraws recognition to Hockey India

The government has derecognised the Hockey India barely a few hours after its executive body elections. The Sports Ministry withdrew the provisional recognition granted to the Hockey India for flouting guidelines relating to age and tenure of officials. The government decision to withdraw the recognition came after it found the reply of the hockey body to the show-cause notice "legally untenable".Earlier, Hockey India held its executive body elections. 82-years-old Vidya Stokes was elected President. She defeated former captain Pargat Singh by a 41-21 margin. Ramesh Nambiar was elected Joint Secretary unopposed. But Nambiar resigned from his post after questions were raised on his eligibility since his name figured in CBI charge-sheet relating to a Defence scam. The results of the polls were not officially declared due to a Supreme Court direction.
