The government has withdrawn with immediate effect the permissible limit on sending SMSes and MMSes. The restrictions were imposed by the Home ministry on the 17th of this month following reports that threatening SMSes were being sent to the people from the Northeast in some states. The measure was aimed at checking the spread of rumours creating panic among the northeasterners in cities like Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
AIR correspondent reports, government had restricted the number of sending bulk SMSes to five for 15 days. But, the cap was reviewed last Friday and increased to sending 20 SMSes per day.
