Govt. will honour SC directive on free distribution of food grains among poor : Pawar

The government today said that it will honour the directions of the Supreme Court or the High Court in the wake of opposition demand on the implementation of the apex court's order on the free distribution of food grains among the poor. Responding to the demands in the Lok Sabha, the Agriculture Minister Mr. Sharad Pawar said that his government will take necessary steps in this regard. He also assured the House that the government will consider seriously the suggestions given by the members. Mr. Pawar said that as far as the Supreme Court order is concerned, he is yet to receive its copy and therefore he does not want to comment on it. Earlier, even as the House has taken up a bill for consideration, the Leader of the Opposition, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, drew attention of the members about the Apex court's clarification today on its earlier order. She said the Agriculture Minister should make a statement and come out with an urgent plan for the distribution of the food grains among the poor as ordered by the highest court of the country. The House witnessed uproarious scenes and heated exchanges even as the Chair allowed the members of different parties to speak on the issue and the house had to be adjourned for 15 minutes till 3 P.M. following pandemonium. When the house reassembled, opposition members urged the government to ensure that the food grains are distributed amongst the poor and are not allowed to rot in the godowns. Later, the house started discussion on the Indian Medicine Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2010.
