Govt will go ahead with GST Constitutional Amendment Bill in current session: Jaitley

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said that the government will go ahead with constitutional amendment bill for introduction of Goods and services tax, GST in the current session of Parliament and expressed confidence about implementation of GST from April 1, 2016. Addressing the state finance ministers meet in New Delhi for rolling out the new indirect tax regime, Mr Jaitley said, there is broad consensus among the state governments in support of GST. He also said that Centre will resolve all the specific issues raised by the states government in the implementation of GST. The meeting is still under way in the national capital.It assumes importance since this would be the first meeting of the Empowered Committee of state finance ministers with Mr Jaitley, after Kerala finance minister K M Mani assumed charge of the chairman of the empowered committee.One of the main priorities of the government is to introduce the GST bill in the current session of Parliament. The government is working towards addressing all concerns from various parties as it would like to roll out GST from April 2016.
