Govt warns legal action against companies not depositing EPF

Government has warned legal action against companies not depositing Employment Provident Funds – EPF – promptly. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, Labour Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge said the Government has many options like moving courts if any organisation is found to be violating the EPF rules.Earlier, conferring the V V Giri award on Professor Ravi S Srivastava Kharge said the Government is committed towards improving the conditions of the migrant workers, both at the national and international level. He said, the enactment of the Unorganised Workers' Social Security Act 2008 is a major policy initiative for addressing the social security requirements of the disadvantaged workers in the unorganised sector, including the migrant workers. The minister said the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act of 2005 has considerably reduced distress migration, especially from backward regions.Mr. Kharge said the Prime Minister's Council for Skill Development has endorsed the vision to create 500 million skilled people by 2022 through skill development system.
