Minister for Space and Atomic Energy Dr Jitendra Singh has urged scientists to increase the social acceptability of projects. Releasing the new application services of BHUVAN, the Geospatial platform of Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO on National Remote Sensing Day today in New Delhi, Mr Singh said, ISRO's projects have been highly helpful especially in disasters like Jammu and Kashmir floods and Hudhud cyclone in Andhra Pradesh last year. <br/><br/>Lauding ISRO for launching BHUVAN and adding new features every year, Dr Singh said, BHUVAN is India's Google as it focuses on various aspects of Indian subcontinent. He said, it is in line with the Prime Minister's Make in India initiative. The Minister informed that two halls for Space and Atomic Energy will be established in the Pragati Maidan in the national capital. He said, due to space technology, MeT department is providing accurate forecast. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Director of ISRO's National Remote Sensing Centre, V K Dadhwal said, ISRO has tied up with the Union Urban Development Ministry for mapping over 500 towns and cities, to make a base plan for better planning and management. He said, the base plan will further help the town planners to prepare a master plan for many fast urbanising local bodies. <br/><br/>Dadhwal said, the mapping is being currently done for municipal local bodies with a population of more than one lakh. The project is expected to start by next month. He said, the space agency will also map and provide management plans for heritage sites and monuments of national importance. <br/><br/>Dadhwal noted that ISRO has diversified operations under Bhuvan Application Services like one meter satellite images for more than 300 cities in the country and 3D city models with extrusions of the buildings and virtual city models, which will be a useful tool for Smart City Programme of the government. Another major programme under the Bhuvan Application Services has been the island information system for developmental decision making for border management.
