The government today urged schools to strictly observe Guidelines for Eliminating Corporal Punishment. Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi asked Human Resource Development Ministry for wide spread circulation and implementation of the Guidelines in the schools. <br/><br/>In her letter to the HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar, Mrs Gandhi has expressed concern at the disturbing incident of corporal punishment in Uttar Pradesh. Media reports said girl students were given corporal punishment in the school for not completing their homework. The incident brought to public attention the issue of corporal punishment used in schools. <br/><br/>The guidelines have been issued by the National Commission of Protection of Child Rights.
