The Government today said that uranium may be present in the environment of Punjab. In a written answer, Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal informed the Lok Sabaha that this may be as a result of leaching from natural deposits. The other factors may be burning of coal and fuels and the use of phosphate fertilizers that contain uranium. As per information from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, the exact reasons for the occurrence of uranium in Punjab has not yet been established, Mr. Bansal said.
