Govt. unveils computer to cost around Rs 1500

The government on Thursday unveiled a computer which is expected to cost only 35 dollars per piece. The Human Resources Development Minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal while making the announcement, said that the aim is to reach this computing cum access device to students in schools, colleges and universities and ultimately ensure that its price drops down ultimately to 10 dollars. Mr. Sibal said that this will be available to the students from 2011. Mr. Sibal said that under the National Mission on Education through information and communication technology connectivity is proposed to be provided to 25000 colleges and 504 universities. He said that 8500 colleges in the country have already been connected and a high quality e-content in various subjects is being created. The computing cum access device was designed by experts from various IITs and MTech students.
