Govt unveils code of conduct for safe tourism

Government today unveiled a code of conduct for safe and honourable tourism at a function in New Delhi. The guideline will enable the industry to encourage tourism activities to be undertaken with respect for basic rights like dignity, safety and freedom from exploitation of both tourists and local residents. <br/><br/>Releasing the guidelines, the Union Minister for Tourism, Ms Kumari Selja said that this will help prevention of activities like assaults and molestations, forced or involuntary drug use in tourism to safeguard the safety of persons particularly women and children. <br/><br/>The Minister said that government has been running the social awareness campaign under the theme ‘Athithi Devo Bhavah’ which also addresses issues relating to treating our women travellers with dignity. <br/><br/>Ms Selja said that her Ministry will soon organize a series of workshops with all the stake holders to develop a plan of action for implementing this code. She also felicitated the two young mountaineers, Arjun Vajpayee and Mamta Sodha who scaled up the world highest peak Mount Everest this year.
