Govt-ULFA signs agreement to suspend operation in Assam

The Government and United Liberation Front of Assam, ULFA on Friday signed an agreement on suspension of operations to end violence in Assam. Official sources said that the agreement was inked after the second round of talks between ULFA and the Centre in New Delhi.

A three-member ULFA team comprising Chitrabon Hazarika, Sashadhar Choudhury and Raju Baruah participated in the talks.

Meanwhile, Assam government has sounded a high alert to check infiltration of Maoists in the state from West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi claimed that Maoists are operating in some parts of Assam with the support of ULFA.
