Govt trying to work out draft model election finance law : Manish Tiwari

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tiwari today said the government is trying to work out a draft model election finance law for routing out corruption in the political system. However, he admitted that the government has not moved fast on this.

He also said the government and the congress party believes that given prima facie evidence of corruption against a public servant he should step down and face the judicial process. Wherever such evidence was seen we have asked the concerned to resign and initiated enquires, he said.

The Minister was addressing a session in the ongoing Think Fest organized by the Tehelaka magazine in Goa today.

Shri Tiwari said the language of politics is always shrill and combatative but the impact of media is vast today and exposures taking the role of jury and judges question the very efficacy of democracy and create a disbelief in the democratic processes. He said the individuals and organizations should also apply the same principles of high morality to themselves also.
