The government will come out with a policy to promote green covers along National Highway corridors with participation of , farmers, private sector and government institutions.<br/><br/>The Green Highways (Plantation,Transportation,Beautification and Maintenance) Policy,2015 will be launched by the Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari tomorrow at a National Conference in New Delhi. Under it, transplantation of trees will be promoted along the Highways wherever it is technically feasible. <br/><br/>The policy provides a comprehensive guidelines to ensure uniformity of operations to enhancement of Highways landscapes. An official release said, the policy will help generate employments to the community and the local groups will get right to the non-timber produce from the trees. Under the policy, one per cent of the total project cost of all highway projects will be kept for the plantation and its maintenance. <br/><br/>The conference will have technical session on various issues including plantation along highways and saving trees through transplanting. Delegates from across the country are expected to participate and deliberate upon various issues related to the development of green highways in the country.
