Govt. to Telcos: put systems in place for legal interception of Blackberry services by year end

The government has asked all telecom services providers to ensure that necessary systems are in place by December the 31st for legal interception of Blackberry services.

The Department of Telecom, (DoT), said, intensive discussions have taken place on the issue of intercepting the services provided by the Canada-based Research-In-Motion, (RIM), but the Telecom Services Providers have not been implementing the interception solution in respect of the Blackberry services offered by them.

In a note, the DoT said, RIM has been asked to provide resolution and web-browsing requirements in respect of Blackberry Internet Service in consultation with Telecom Service Providers and their lawful interception vendors.

RIM has agreed to place a server in Mumbai in this connection.
