Govt to taxmen: Use latest tech to expand tax compliance & assessment

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has asked Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income Tax to use latest technology and the vast information base at their disposal, to expand tax compliance and assessment. Inaugurating Annual conference of the Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income tax at Vigyan Bhavan this morning, he said, enough time and attention should be devoted to analyze and piece together untapped information using latest technology to improve tax related services.

Our correspondent reports, that during the two day conference senior functionaries of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) would interact, exchange ideas and views to evolve solutions on tax administration issues. Steps to augment revenue, tax administration reforms, strengthening of TDS machinery, widening and deepening of tax base, improving taxpayer services and Human resources management among others are likely to be discussed.
