Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said the government will take more measures to strengthen country's economy. He said the announcements on the proposed measures will be made while replying to discussion on the Union Budget in Parliament this month-end. Mr Chidambaram was addressing the Post-Budget Interactive Session with Industry Associations in New Delhi this evening. The Finance Minister said the Budget has given enough indications to the foreign investors that New Delhi is on the path of fiscal consolidation.Mr Chidambaram also indicated his plans to visit some of the countries including Japan to hold discussions with foreign investors. In the domestic front, Mr Chidambaram said he will travel to Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other cities to meet the industrialists to find out why investments are not taking place.The Finance Minister said the first objective of the government is fiscal consolidation. He said the country's Current Account Deficit (CAD) must be addressed saying it was never addressed nor debated. He said there is a need to increase exports from the country to pay for its imports.Mr Chidambaram said the on-line filing of income tax returns will reduce the delay in the payment of refunds. He said the Income Tax department has sent 35,000 notices to people and an equal number of notices are being sent now.In this context, he appealed to the people to pay tax by declaring their income and be a part of nation-building.
