<span style="color: #222222;">The government today asserted that it will take an appropriate decision after due deliberation on Supreme Court's recent decision on SC/ST reservation. <br />''<br />''The apex court in a recent judgment has said that reservation of SC/ST in jobs and promotion is not a fundamental right. Making a statement in Rajya Sabha today, Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said, the central government was neither a party nor has submitted an affidavit in this matter. <br />''<br />''He said, NDA government is committed to the welfare of SC/ST and OBCs. He said, the apex court's decision is based on an order issued by the then Congress government in Uttarakhand in 2012. Opposition members cutting across party line questioned the apex court's verdict and demanded the government to take immediate remedial measures to safeguard the interest of people of schedule caste and schedule tribe.<br />''<br />''Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said that as it is a serious matter, therefore, the central government should immediately move to Supreme Court for a review. He also said a bill should be introduced in Parliament to make the Court's decision null and void. Satish Chandra Misra of BSP termed the government's statement as vague and inadequate. He questioned whether Centre would now become a party in this case in order to safeguard the interest of these communities. Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party also asked the government to reveal the timeline to move a review petition in this case. He also demanded reservation in the higher judiciary for SC, ST and OBCs.<br />''<br />''T K Rangarajan of CPI(M) alleged that it is a deep-rooted conspiracy to abolish reservation. Sukhendu Sekhar of TMC and K Keshava Rao of TRS also demanded immediate action. LJP leader and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said, the reservation-related matter should be put under the 9th Schedule of the Constitution. Further allaying the fears, Mr. Paswan said, no one can abolish reservation and the government is committed for it. Bhupender Yadav of BJP also echoed the same view and reiterated the government's commitment for reservation. Later not satisfied with the government's response members of Congress, SP, TMC, BSP, DMK, Left , NCP and others staged a walkout.</span><br />
