Govt to take all measures to ensure safety of nuclear plants

India is going all out to ensure full proof security for its existing and new nuclear reactors. Authoritative sources said in Astana that nuclear safety apparatus is being over hauled .Sources said that government is planning to bring two legislations in the coming monsoon session in this regard . One is about the nuclear safety on radioactive sources and second on Atomic energy Regulatory Board amendment to strengthen the regulatory regime. Sources said after nuclear meltdown in Japan , department of atomic energy had formed four task force groups out of which one has recommended and listed out additional measures for safety and security of reactors. Nuclear Power Corporation of India and Department of atomic energy will look into the additional cost and whatever is needed government will do .Government is also reviewing criteria of site selection and if there is a need for up gradation. Sources further said that India is attempting to put in place world level safety standards prescribed by the IAEA. Government is establishing a mechanism for emergency response in case of nuclear accidents.
