Government will take action after carefully examining the Army report into the alleged unauthorised operations and financial wrongdoings by a top secret intelligence unit set up by the then Army Chief General V K Singh. In a statement, Defence Ministry today said , the report impinges on matters of national security and government has taken measures to prevent any such undesirable activities. The statement came in the wake of a media report alleging that Former Army Chief had misused secret service funds to destabilise the Jammu and Kashmir Government and conducted unauthorised covert operation. The ministry has also clarified that it has not taken any decision for a CBI inquiry into the issues raised in the Army’s Report.
Reacting to the report, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said, the facts brought out in the report are extremely sensitive and if any person, retired or serving is found to be involved in the matter, action will be taken. He said the contents of the report are under active consideration of the government.
BJP has raised the question over the timings of the report. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said the allegations against the than General V.K Singh sound absolutely curious and odd not only because of the timing but also the contents of the report. She accused the government of setting wrong precedents, saying this does not augur well for the country’s forces.
