Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has said that the monopolisation of cable network system in some states, including Punjab, was not acceptable and soon the government would bring about some way of tackling this issue. Speaking at the inauguration of Community Radio station of the Punjab University in Chandigarh , she said, she had already written to Chief Secretary of Punjab to check the monoplisation of cable network in the state.She said that there was need for self regulation on general entertainment channels and the government was already close to formulating a framework under which this could be made possible. She pointed out, that this framework would be self regulatory and independent.
