Govt to standardise costs of medical tourism services

The Government has decided to standardize the cost of medical tourism services in the country through a centralized web portal. It will provide a big relief to foreign tourists who visit India for medical and wellness tours. <br/><br/>Briefing media in New Delhi today, Tourism Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma said, the growth of medical and wellness tourism in the country has been between 23 to 25 per cent and there is a lot of potential. <br/><br/>The National Medical and Wellness Tourism Promotion Board will come out with a draft Medical and Wellness Tourism Policy for the country next week to streamline the niche travel segment so that tourists are not defrauded on such trips. <br/><br/>The Minister said, the Centre wants to ensure that people who come to India to learn and see the different services like yoga and ayurveda are not cheated or discriminated against. <br/><br/>He said, a portal is being creating whereby they can assess the rates of services that range from medical treatment, yoga, wellness, spas and others. Dr Sharma said, the website will be functional within the next three months.

He said, the sector had been growing at a rate between 23 to 25 per cent and there is a lot of potential in this. <br/><br/>Mr. Sharma added that information regarding qualification of experts, the kind of services available and where to go for such services will be available on the web portal. He said, the prices for such services will be the same all over the country. <br/><br/>The Minister said, the government wanted to ensure that people who come to India to learn and see the different services like Yoga and Ayurveda are not cheated or discriminated against.
