Home Minister P. Chidambaram today assured the Lok Sabha that government will soon take a decision on the inclusion of Bhojpuri
language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution.

Replying to a Calling Attention by Jagdambika Pal of Congress, Shailendra Kumar of Samajwadi Party, Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh of RJD and others, the Minister said a decision in this connection would be announced in the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

He said the government is examining the Sitakant Mahapatra report and a report given by Union Public Service Commission, UPSC.

Many members cutting across the party line demanded to include Bhojpuri language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution as it is spoken by more than 30 crore people across the world.
