The government will come out with a policy to promote green covers along National Highway corridors with participation of farmers, private sector and government institutions.<br/><br/>The Green Highways (Plantation,Transportation,Beautification and Maintenance) Policy,2015 will be launched by the Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday. Under it, transplantation of trees will be promoted along the Highways wherever it is technically feasible. <br/><br/>Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Road Transport and Highways Secretary Vijay Chhibber said, the policy provides a comprehensive guidelines to ensure uniformity of operations to enhancement of Highways landscapes. He said, the policy will help generate employments to the community and the local groups will get right to the non-timber produce from the trees. <br/><br/>Mr Chhibber also informed that one per cent of the total project cost of all highway projects will be kept for the plantation and its maintenance. Under it, only empanelled agencies will be allowed to bid for the planting work.
