Government today said it will soon establish some more tiger reserves in the country to conserve tigers. This was stated by Union Minister for Environment and Forest Jayanti Natrajan while inaugurating a International conference on Tiger conservation in New Delhi today. Mrs. Natrajan said that India is committed to increase the number of tigers and conserve them. She added that India has large number of tigers and almost one percent of the country's geographical area is conserved for tigers as their core and critical habitat.
Expressing concern over poaching, illegal trade and man- animal conflict in the tiger range states, the Minister stressed the need to deploy more number of special tiger protection forces in the country. She highlighted the need for enlisting local people support, which is crucial for tiger conservation to succeed. Mrs. Natrajan also said there is need to adopt multi-pronged strategy to address issues relating to tiger conservation in the country.
