The Union Ministry for Chemicals and Fertilizers will shortly bring out a new comprehensive Fertilizer Policy. The Union Minister Ananth Kumar informed this during the valedictory function of Krishi mela in Bengaluru on Friday. The Comprehensive policy will strike a balance between chemical and organic fertilizer usage and encourage soil mapping in the country.The Union minister informed that soil mapping is important to determine quantity of fertilizer needed for each soil type. The Central Government will set up 100 soil testing labs in a year that will test the soil and prepare a soil map. The farmers can get a Soil Health Card after the soil in their field is tested. It is planned to distribute three crore soil health cards next year.In the subsequent two years, the plan is to distribute 11 crore cards. The minister disclosed that there is no proposal to hike fertilizer rates. Appreciating the progress made in Jan Dhan yojana, he said, seven crore 21 lakh bank accounts have been opened which will help direct transfer of Government subsidies to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
