Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Radha Mohan Singh today said Central Government will set up a central agricultural university in Umiam, Shillong. Addressing a video conference with media representatives from Delhi, the Union Minister said that Central Government has initiated a new scheme for promoting organic farming exclusively for the North East region, adding that earlier there was no such scheme to promote organic farming in the country. <br/><br/>He said, Meghalaya is taking gigantic steps to become an organic state like Sikkim. He appreciated that farmers in Meghalaya are doing a god job in production of rice and wheat. He said that the farmers in Meghalaya are also engaged in fruit farming and the future of state farmers is very bright.
