21 new Textile Parks will be set up across the country with a view to provide world class infrastructure for Textile Industry. The project is to be implemented over a period of three years at a cost of 2100 crore rupees. Out of these, 6 parks will come up in Maharashtra, 4 in Rajasthan, 2 each in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and one each park will be set up in states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujrat and Karnataka. Textile Minister , Mr Anand Sharma said that these parks have been sanctioned under the Scheme for Integrated Textiles Parks.
He said, the Scheme seeks green field investments in textiles sector on a public private partnership basis. The Minister said that the new Textiles Parks would leverage an investment of over 9000 crore rupees and provide employment to 4 lakh textiles workers. He said that Government will finance common infrastructure with a subsidy of 40 crore rupees for each such park. Mr Sharma said that Textile Ministry would be seeking a higher allocation under the 12th Five Year Plan in view of the considerable demand for Textiles Parks in the country. He said that out of the 40 textiles parks sanctioned under the 11th Five Year Plan, 24 Textiles Parks have started operations and have attracted investments of 18,880 crore rupees with a subsidy of 1420 crore rupees .
