Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar has said that government has decided to set up 100 Central Institutes for Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) in the country to meet the requirement of skilled manpower in the petrochemical sector. <br/><br/>He said this while giving away the National Awards for Technology in Innovation in Petrochemicals and downstream Plastics Processing Industry in New Delhi yesterday. The minister said the country needs more value addition of the refinery output so that the polymer industry grows up fast, creates new products and does import substitution. <br/><br/>Complimenting the awardees, Mr. Kumar said that there is so much talent in the country in the sector, and there is a need to harness and support them so that more innovations, research and Development activities take place. The Minister also stressed the need for launching awareness campaign about the benefits of polymer products, their recycling and reusing them. Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir was also present at the function.
